Legionella Risk Assessment Frequency

If you look after a building or manage facilities that have hot and cold water systems, then you must review the Legionella Risk Assessment frequency. There is no set guideline how how often Legionella Risk Assessments should be undertaken, however, you must look at what is appropriate for your building.

Legionella Risk Assessment Frequency

There are a number of reasons when you should increase the Legionella Risk Assessment frequency. Failing to do this could make the building unsafe to use and at risk of water contamination.

  1. Changes to a water systems
If you make any changes to a water system for example adding or removing pipework you need to conduct a Legionella Risk Asessement. The Legionella Risk Assessment must reflects these changes.
  2. Change of use
If the premises you look after change the what they are usually used for you will require an updated risk assessment.
  3. Ineffective monitoring
If the Legionella monitoring and management processes are insufficient or ineffective at keeping the bacteria under control you must undertake a new risk assessment as a starting point.
  4. New Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance
Occasionally the HSE will issue new guidance regarding the control and prevention of Legionella. When this happens, you must review your Legionella Risk Assessment to ensure that it complies with the new rules.
  5. Positive Legionella Result
If regular water testing reveals the presence of Legionella in a water systems you must review your Legionella Risk Assessment. A new Legionella Risk Assessment will highlight the course of action that needs to be taken. Water Hygiene Consultants is able to work with you on a Legionella Control plan.
